CooperSurgical Toxic IVF Solution Lawsuit

What Is the CooperSurgical Recall of December 2023?

Medical manufacturer CooperSurgical provides the solution used to develop fertilized embryos of patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). This product is used after the egg retrieval cycle to help embryos grow. CooperSurgical recently issued a recall of several lots of its culture media product that did not contain the required amount of magnesium, which ultimately destroyed the development of the embryos. In other words, the embryos could not survive because of the toxic embryo culture media manufactured by CooperSurgical.

Following increased complaints, on December 13, 2023, CooperSurgical initiated a “silent recall” of three lot numbers and notified its clients to quarantine the affected product. On February 14, 2024, the FDA issued a Class 2 Device Recall of the solution.

CooperSurgical products were distributed to the following states:

AL, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS,KY, LA, MD, MA, MI, MO, NV, NJ, NM, NY, NC, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, and WV.

Who Is Impacted By The Toxic Embryo Culture Media Recall?

It is estimated that as many as 20,000 patients could be affected by the devastating destruction of embryos. CooperSurgical distributes the solution to fertility clinics nationwide but has not disclosed which fertility clinics received the defective solution.
