Atlanta, GA  (December 2, 2015) – Pope McGlamry, a law firm with offices in Atlanta and Columbus, announced the launch of a “Wishing Tree” holiday program to help Atlanta-area victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking.

To further Pope McGlamry’s ongoing efforts to support the International Women’s House (IWH), the firm has spearheaded a holiday gift drive to provide Christmas gifts to the shelter’s women and children.

IWH is a domestic violence shelter that provides a safe haven and support services to immigrant and refugee women and children who are the victims of domestic violence, assault and human trafficking. In 2014, the state of Georgia received 2,694 refugees from 35 countries.  IWH is the only shelter in the state that is specifically equipped to provide services to such victims with sensitivity to their various backgrounds and cultural needs.

Each family member at IWH has submitted a Christmas wish card to Pope McGlamry.  Each of these wishes is displayed on the special holiday “Wishing Tree” at the firm’s Atlanta office.

Every staff member and attorney at Pope McGlamry, in addition to other Atlanta lawyers who have volunteered to support the project, will select a wish from the Wishing Tree and purchase the gifts listed to make someone at the shelter’s Christmas wish come true.

“We are honored to introduce this initiative and give back to our community,” said Kirk Pope, shareholder of Pope McGlamry. “We are helping in a small way to bring happiness to these families at IWH during the holidays and showing them that Atlanta is a loving and supportive community.”

For many of us, the holiday season is our favorite time of year.  The goal of this Wishing Tree program is to share some happiness with those who have lost so much due to domestic abuse or human trafficking.

“For people living in the shelter, the short days of winter mean more time spent in the dark, so it is our hope to bring warmth and compassion to those women and children during this season,” said firm shareholder Mike McGlamry.
