Wright Hip Profemur Hip Complications & Defects
Wright has marketed, manufactured and sold the Profemur hip system since 2003, and thousands of patients have received this device. Since this device was originally designed and distributed, the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery has issued a watch for modular hip components due to pervasive reports of wear and corrosion. Consistent with industry expert concerns, Profemur hip implants have been prone to corrosion, fretting and micromotion, oftentimes producing catastrophic fracture events.
Wright Medical Profemur Fractures
Fractures from Defective Hip Devices almost always require immediate hospitalization for revision surgery to have the failed Profemur system removed and replaced with another safer hip implant.
Wright Profemur Hip Corrosion or Fretting
Metal corrosion or fretting from a Defective Profemur Hip Device leads to severe negative health consequences.
First Profemur Fracture Lawsuit
The first Profemur fracture lawsuit was tried during June of 2015 in Los Angeles Superior Court and resulted in a recovery of over $1 million to that injured patient. While that recovery is encouraging to all individuals injured by malfunctioning Wright hip implants, it must be remembered that the award amount was reached after the jury’s review of facts specific to that patient’s case and that not all Wright hip implant lawsuits will yield similarly-sized recoveries. To date, the FDA’s Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience (MAUDE) has received over two hundred Profemur fracture reports, yet they haven’t called for a Wright Profemur recall. That lawsuit was just the first of over 1200 lawsuits involving Wright’s defective hip implants awaiting trial in federal and state courts across the country.
Our Experience With Wright Replacement Lawsuits
To date, Pope McGlamry has filed multiple lawsuits in Shelby County, Tennessee, where Wright has its headquarters, on behalf of patients who underwent sudden emergency revision surgery following Profemur hip system fractures. Our firm has also settled multiple lawsuits brought on behalf of Wright Profemur hip implant patients, resulting in substantial settlements for them and their families.
Pope McGlamry further serves as national co-lead counsel for thousands of Wright Conserve hip implant lawsuits consolidated as a multi-district litigation proceeding (MDL No. 2329) for the management of discovery, pre-trial matters and bellwether trials before the Honorable William S. Duffey Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
