DePuy Hip Recalls
While DePuy, a sub-company of Johnson & Johnson, has grown to be a multinational medical device manufacturer, they have faced numerous recalls.
ASR Recall – In 2010, DePuy acknowledged the staggering failure rate for it’s ASR Hip Implant Device and issued a voluntary recall August of that year.
Pinnacle Recall – A similar story, the DePuy Pinnacle Hip System has been known to fail after only 5 years, coming up short to the industry standard hip devices that usually last over 20 years. The Pinnacle hip implant was taken off the market in 2013 when the FDA tightened their regulations.

DePuy Hip Settlement
Both DePuy settlement programs are designed to compensate patients experiencing metal ion toxicity, and other ailments, who’ve undergone hip revision surgery to replace the defective hip device.
DePuy ASR Settlement Program – Developed in 2013 for $2.5 million and may grow up to $4 billion.
DePuy Pinnacle Settlement Program – Created in 2016 and ordered to pay out over $1 billion to claimants.
How much can qualified claimants receive from DePuy settlement programs?
Qualified participants receive a “base” award. The amount of the base award is determined by the length of time the device was implanted, patient age, smoking history and body mass index.
How do I know if I qualify for a DePuy settlement program?
Request a free consultation with the DePuy Hip lawyers at Pope McGlamry to see if you have a claim against DePuy. If you qualify, our team will develop and submit the claim for you. A neutral Claims Processor will then determine whether the claimant is eligible and, if so, which base factors apply. The Claims Processor must base these decisions solely on information contained in the patient’s contemporaneous medical records.
