At the Atlanta and Columbus, Georgia law offices of Pope, McGlamry, Kilpatrick, Morrison & Norwood, PC, our product liability attorneys are currently investigating personal injury and wrongful death claims involving Yaz, Yasmin, and other potentially dangerous drugs containing drospirenone.
What is drospirenone? Drospirenone is a synthetic steroid used as a hormonal contraceptive under an array of brands: Yaz, Yasmin, Yasminelle, Beyaz, Ocella, Zarah, and Angeliq. All of these drugs combine drospirenone with estrogen. Drospirenone drugs are also used to treat acne and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
Yaz & Yasmin Side Effects
According to a October 2011 study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), women taking contraceptive pills containing drospirenone have a six- to seven-fold risk of developing a blood clot compared to other contraceptives that have been on the market for years.
Yaz and Yasmin are manufactured and distributed by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals. On the market since 2001, many studies have linked these drugs to side effects including heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, and renal failure; many of these life threatening.
Recently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has chastised Bayer for the way they have marketed the drug. Bayer’s TV ads were misleading; “[they] over-promise the benefits and minimize the risk associated with Yaz.” Later, the FDA updated the labels on these drugs acknowledging the potential risk for blood clots, and stress they should not be taken before or after surgery.
Our Atlanta and Columbus, Georgia Yaz and Yasmin lawyers are investigating potential lawsuits involving serious side effects. To discuss your claim with our attorneys, contact the law office of Pope, McGlamry, Kilpatrick, Morrison & Norwood, PC, today.
Yaz and Yasmin Lawsuits
Yaz and Yasmin have been cited in over 1,000 lawsuits across the country. The claims argue that Bayer:
- Failed to adequately warn its consumers and the medical community at large about the drugs’ potential side effects.
- Failed to adequately test and research Yaz and Yasmin before placing it on the market.
- Failed to issue a drug recall after it became apparent that these drugs are potentially dangerous.
- Aware of these dangers, they continued an aggressive marketing campaign, even encouraging misuse.
At our Atlanta and Columbus law offices, our experienced Yaz and Yasmin lawyers can help you file a lawsuit and recover compensation for your suffering. You may be entitled to compensation for:
- Medical expenses (including hospital, surgical, and ambulance bills)
- Rehabilitation costs (expenses tied to your recovery)
