Actos Side Effects
Actos and Bladder Cancer
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, patients taking Actos for more than a year may have increased risk of bladder cancer. The warning was in response to an ongoing epidemiological study which revealed that patients with long exposure or high dosages of Actos were at a greater risk for bladder cancer.
In September 2010, the FDA announced data from Takeda Pharmaceuticals indicates that the longer Actos is used, the greater the risk of bladder cancer.
In June 2011, an Actos recall was issued in France after health authorities ordered doctors to stop prescribing the drug due to the possible risk of bladder cancer. A French study of public insurance data confirmed that there is a slight increase in the risk of bladder cancer with use, adding to the prior concerns about long-germ use of Actos.
