Michael Moore of Pope McGlamry appears on American Greed

This American Greed episode tackles the case of Peanut Corporation of America, which shipped out salmonella-laced peanut products that sickened hundreds and left nine people dead nearly 10 years ago.

The company, which traces its roots to Gorman and later had a plant in Plainview, both in West Texas, went bankrupt in 2009 after a massive recall.

The case resulted in criminal charges against the company’s chief executive, Stewart Parnell, who was the son of a previous company executive. When Parnell was sentenced in 2015 to 28 years in prison,  it was described as the stiffest punishment ever handed out to a producer in a food-borne illness case.
